PROBLEM

Teaching First Year Studies is a balance between covering required materials and innovation. Many of the “get to know you” exercises students are asked to perform the first day of class are the typical tried and true exercises that have been used for years. I needed something to make the first day more interesting to students as well as encourage them to use their computers and mobile devices since we are going to do a semester-long social media project as I did with me class last year.

RESOLUTION

I researched software for helping with interactive class presentations. The software needed to be easy for students to use as well as offer a free version. I chose Nearpod.com. This software was originally designed to help integrate iPads into the classroom and now works with iPads, Android, Mac and Windows platforms.
